PNE plans repatriation ceremony
The Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) says it plans to hold a ceremony for the repatriation of historical military artifacts.
During excavation work at Hastings Park for the PNE’s new outdoor concert venue earlier this year, the amusement park operator and its contractors discovered more than a dozen artifacts, including First World War cannons and guns.
At the event, PNE representatives will officially hand over those historical military artifacts to the Canadian Armed Forces.
The repatriation ceremony is scheduled for August 19.
As part of the day-long celebration, all active duty and retired military members will receive free admission to the fair.
This ceremony marks an important recognition of the historical items unearthed during the construction of the PNE’s new outdoor concert venue.
