Police chase on Sea-to-Sky Highway: WVPD seeks witnesses
The West Vancouver Police Department is asking for witnesses after a driver was recorded speeding at almost 200 km/hr near the Sea-to-Sky Highway.
It happened shortly after 9 p.m. on October 30 when officers recorded the car, a white Chrysler 300C, traveling westbound at 194 km/hr on Highway 1 in West Vancouver.
The WVPD says an officer attempted to pull over the car, but the driver continued northbound on Highway 99 towards Squamish.
“Due to the vehicle’s high speed and concerns for public safety, the WVPD officer did not engage in a pursuit and instead radioed ahead to the BC Highway Patrol and Squamish RCMP,” the WVPD said in a written statement.

After the driver passed Porteau Cove, officers deployed a spike belt on the road, bringing the vehicle to a stop.
Police arrested the driver who was impaired at that time.
“This driver’s conduct displayed a blatant disregard for public safety. West Vancouver Police will continue to work in coordination with Squamish RCMP and the BC Highway Patrol to get these drivers off the road and hold them accountable,” said WVPD spokesperson Suzanne Birch.
The WVPD ordered a 10-month roadside driving prohibition and recommended two charges.
Anyone with dashcam footage or other information is asked to contact the WVPD at 604-925-7300.
