The RCMP says it is investigating after an unprovoked assault on a taxi driver in Maple Ridge more than two months ago.
Shortly before 3 p.m. on Sept. 17, the Ridge Meadows RCMP received reports of the assault, which took place near the intersection of Sheldrake Court and Fern Crescent.

The driver picked up the suspect at a business on 232nd Street near 129th Avenue, police say. As they were driving, the suspect told the driver to stop and “immediately began assaulting him.”
“The victim received injuries to his face due to multiple punches being thrown at him,” police said.
“In the process, the suspect also attempted to break the CCTV camera in the taxi and proceeded to break the vehicle’s windshield before fleeing the area.”

Police dogs and air services were called in, but they were unable to locate the suspect.
Mounties are releasing photos of the suspect, who police say appears to be in his mid-to-late 50s with a stocky build. He was wearing a dark coloured T-shirt.
“This was an unprovoked assault on an innocent victim that also involved property damage and occurred in the middle of the day, where it was witnessed by multiple people in our community,” said Insp. Martin Guay.
“As a result, we would like the public’s assistance in identifying this individual and holding him accountable for his actions.”
