Police presence at two schools in Nanaimo, B.C., after unspecified threat
Police in Nanaimo, B.C., say additional officers will be stationed at two local secondary schools on Wednesday due to an unspecified threat.
RCMP say in a release that both Wellington High School and Nanaimo District Secondary School will see liaison and front-line officers on-site after consultation with the local school district.
Police did not release details of the threat other than to say it was directed at both schools.
They say additional police resources are being deployed out of an abundance of caution to control access to the schools and monitor the grounds.
Police say they understand the presence of additional officers may be “uncomfortable” for some at the school, but their presence is necessary to ensure the safety of students.
They say anyone with questions or concerns about the situation should contact the Nanaimo RCMP.
