Police release name of victim in fatal Abbotsford shooting
Police have released the name of the victim of Friday’s fatal shooting in Abbotsford.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says the victim has been identified as 28-year-old Navpreet Dhaliwal, a resident of Abbotsford.
The shooting is believed to have been targeted and linked to the ongoing B.C. gang conflict, according to IHIT.
“Mr. Dhaliwal was known to police, and his name is being released to the public in an effort to advance the investigation,” it said in a news release.

Members of the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) were called to a home in the area of Siskin Drive and Sandpiper Drive just after 12:30 p.m. on Friday. When they arrived, they found Dhaliwal suffering from life-threatening injuries. He died at the scene.
On Friday, the AbbyPD said the shooting was not related to extortion.
Anyone with information or video footage from the area between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday is asked to call the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email [email protected].
