The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) has been called in after a woman was injured following a shooting in Agassiz Thursday.

According to the IIO — the province’s civilian police oversight agency — the BC RCMP was called out to a home on Highway 9 between McDonald Road and Bristol Drive just before 8 p.m. after a report of a person damaging a home.

When police arrived, they found a woman outside the home with a weapon.

“The woman then went inside the home,” IIO said.

“An interaction occurred and shots were fired by officers.”

When police entered the home, they found the person with a gunshot injury.

The woman was arrested and then airlifted to hospital for treatment.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.

The IIO is called in after any police-related incidents that result in death or serious injury, whether or not there are any allegations of wrongdoing.
