Rainfall warning issued for northern sections of Lower Mainland
Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for much of the Lower Mainland, including West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and Coquitlam.
Between 50 and 70 millimetres of precipitation are expected, beginning Sunday and stretching into Monday evening.
“A frontal system will bring rain to the south coast tonight and Monday,” the weather service said Sunday.
“Periods of light rain starting tonight will intensify to heavy rain by Monday morning.”
The heavy rain is expected to ease Monday evening as the system passes.
Drivers are urged to allow extra time for travel and take caution.
“Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas,” Environment Canada said.
“Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced at times.”
The warning also covers Howe Sound and the Sea to Sky Highway between Squamish and Brandywine.
