Rainfall warning issued for parts of Lower Mainland, South Coast
Keep those umbrellas handy this weekend.
Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for northern sections of Metro Vancouver — including West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, and Pitt Meadows — as well as Howe Sound and the Sea to Sky Highway between Squamish and Brandywine.
Between 50 and 70 millimetres of rain are expected across affected regions, at times heavy, the weather service says.
“A Pacific frontal system will bring heavy rain to parts of the South Coast this weekend,” the warning says.
“Light rain will intensify to periods of heavy rain on Saturday and ease Sunday morning with the passage of the system.”
Drivers should exercise caution as water is likely to pool on roads and in low-lying areas.
“Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced at times,” Environment Canada said.
