RCMP investigating after pedestrians hit in Port Coquitlam crash
The RCMP says it is investigating after several pedestrians were hit in a multi-vehicle crash in Port Coquitlam earlier this week.
Just after 2 p.m. Tuesday, officers were called to the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Westwood Street after reports of the collision.
“Initial investigation indicates that a vehicle slowing for a red light westbound on Lougheed Highway was rear-ended by another vehicle,” the Coquitlam RCMP said in a news release.
“Both vehicles then continued through the intersection, striking a third vehicle and several pedestrians.”
One person — the driver of one of the vehicles — was seriously injured and taken to hospital, Mounties said.
BC Emergency Health Services says it provided treatment to five patients who were taken to hospital in stable condition.
All drivers and pedestrians stayed at the scene and are cooperating with police.
Alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors.
“Our investigators are working to piece together what happened in the moments leading up to the collision,” said acting Sgt. George Han.
Anyone who was in the area around 2 p.m. Tuesday is asked to call the RCMP at 604-945-1550 and refer to file 2025-31094.
