The Richmond RCMP is warning the public after an incident with an unexploded military artifact at the Colonel Sherman Armoury Friday.

A section of No. 4 Road in Richmond was closed starting at 9:30 a.m. as Mounties responded to a report that an “old unexploded ordnance” had been “turned in” to the armoury.

“An Ammunition Technician from the Canadian Armed Forces attended and safely removed the unexploded ordnance,” police explained in the afternoon.

The stretch of road between Alderbridge Way and Westminster Highway was closed out of what police say was an abundance of caution, and reopened around 11:30 a.m.

Mounties say if you come across what appears to be an unexploded or unknown military artifact, you shouldn’t touch it or try to move it.

“Leave the item where it is and contact your local police for assistance,” said Cpl. Melissa Lui.

The Leader Spirit has reached out to the Richmond RCMP for more information.
