Remembrance Day ceremonies in the Lower Mainland this year

Remembrance Day is observed Nov. 11 every year as a time to honour armed forces members who served and died for their countries. There are many events and ceremonies around the Lower Mainland for people to mark the occasion and pay their respects.

The following is a list of some events taking place across Metro Vancouver.

Vancouver

Victory Square ceremony and procession
This year will mark the 100th year of the Vancouver Remembrance Day ceremony at this location. The City of Vancouver says over 15,000 people attend the event every year.

Japanese Canadian War Memorial ceremony
Where: Cenotaph in Stanley Park
Time: 10:40 a.m.

UBC War Memorial ceremony
The university has been holding this ceremony yearly since 1951. Students, staff, and the public are invited to attend.
Where: War Memorial Gym, 6081 University Blvd.
Time: 10 a.m.

The City of Vancouver says City Hall and the Burrard Bridge will be lit up to observe the day.

Burnaby

Royal Canadian Legion Branch #148 ceremony and parade
Where: The parade will proceed from the McGill Library to the Cenotaph in Confederation Park
Time: 10 a.m.

Where: A parade will take place from the Legion #83 at 5289 Grimmer Street to the cenotaph.

Royal Canadian Crescent Legion Branch #240 procession and service
Where: The procession will begin at the Legion at 2643 128 Street

City of Coquitlam ceremony and parade
Traditional Remembrance Day ceremony and parade hosted by the Coquitlam Royal Canadian Legion Branch 263. The events will also include poppy painting and other events.
Where: Como Lake Middle School – 975 King Albert Avenue — to the Blue Mountain Park cenotaph

The ceremony will include a wreath ceremony.
Where: City Hall cenotaph
Time: The wreath pickup begins at 8:30 a.m. Parade assembly is from Queens Avenue and Sixth Street at 10:15 a.m.
