A resident of Richmond has been sentenced to 30 months in prison in connection with offences relating to the trafficking of fentanyl and MDMA, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said Thursday.

The agency says it launched an investigation in September 2020 after border officers at the Vancouver International Mail Centre seized prohibited firearm parts being sent from China to Burnaby.

The investigation identified Raymond Sun as the importer.

In February 2021, the CBSA arrested Sun at his home, where investigators executed a search warrant. They seized 274 grams of MDMA, 284 fentanyl tablets, more than $77,000 in currency, and assorted drug trafficking paraphernalia such as scales and money-counting machines. In September 2022, he was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl and MDMA. On March 13, 2025, he was found guilty of both charges.

He was sentenced on Dec. 16, 2025.

Sun has also been issued a lifetime firearms ban.

The CBSA says officers in the Pacific Region made more than 10,000 seizures of illegal narcotics in 2025.
