Several people displaced after large apartment fire in Chilliwack Saturday

A massive apartment fire in Chilliwack Saturday damaged several units on the top two floors, leaving multiple occupants displaced.
Crews were called out to the building on Corbould Street near Kipp Avenue around 3:30 p.m., the fire department says.
Assistant Fire Chief Krista Minar says they aren’t able to estimate just how many residents have been impacted, but she says 10 units on the top floor and multiple suites on the floor below have suffered severe water and fire damage.
Crews say the blaze was “particularly challenging to suppress.”
“Anytime we have a large area of space with fuel being wood trusses and beams, along with a lot of oxygen, when we do have fire move up to these spaces, it completes the fire triangle when we add in a little bit of heat,” Minar said.
“So fire moves very rapidly, despite a coordinated effort.”
She says the residents have all received assistance to help them temporarily relocate.
“Many of the occupants were able to connect with family and friends … to have a safe place to go, and those that were not able to connect with family or friend supports were able to receive supports through Emergency Support Services,” Minar said.
No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
