The Delta Police Department announced it is now investigating a homicide after the victim of a shooting Monday died.

Police responded to a report of a shooting on 112B Street near 81 Avenue just after 7 a.m. Officers discovered an injured man who was then transported to hospital.

In an update Tuesday, the DPD announced that 29-year-old Delta resident Gurvinder Uppal died from his injuries in hospital.

Police say a white Ford pickup truck left the scene of the shooting. A similar truck was later found in flames on Blake Drive.

“We do believe those two incidents are related,” Acting Insp. James Sandberg told 1130 News Radio. “The white truck on fire is likely the white truck that was seen leaving the shooting scene, and we’ll wait for definitive confirmation of that by our investigators, but at this point we are believing that those are connected.”

On Monday, Sandberg said the incident showed all the hallmark signs of gang-related crime.

“There are indicators in this investigation that cause our investigators to believe that this is, in fact, related to the B.C. gang conflict,” Sandberg added Tuesday.

He says the victim was targeted, but homicide has become a rare event in Delta.

“This is the first shooting that has occurred in Delta, the first homicide that has occurred in Delta in 2025 — and Delta recorded no homicides in 2024.” Sandberg added.

Anyone with security footage of the area of the shooting or the fire is being asked to contact Delta police by calling 604-940-7321 or emailing [email protected].
