Surrey police are asking for the public’s help in finding an electric scooter stolen from outside a Walmart in Surrey.

The Surrey Police Service says the victim parked her scooter outside the store on King George Boulevard around 2:50 p.m. on May 6 and returned 15 minutes later to find the scooter was gone.

CCTV footage from the scene shows a suspect mounting the scooter, starting it, and riding northbound towards 102 Avenue.

Police have released an image from the footage, hoping to identify the suspect.

He is described as a man between the ages of 30 and 50, 5’7″ tall, with a slim build. At the time, he was wearing black shoes, dark pants, a grey hoodie with a ‘Reebok’ triangle-shaped logo and lettering on the front, a white baseball cap, and sunglasses.

Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton says the scooter is valued at over $1,000, and its loss has had a profound effect on the victim, a single mother who uses it as her primary mode of transportation.

“I think a lot of times people don’t realize that. They just think, ‘Oh, it’s a bike or a scooter. It’s gone. You know, no big deal.’ But in this case, it’s made a really big impact on her life and her family’s life, and we’re really hoping to be able to locate and return it for her,” said Houghton.

He says bikes and scooters go missing often, but hopes the appeal to the public, the scooter’s distinct blue colour, and the image of the suspect will help to track it down.
