A BC United MLA is leaving provincial politics to run in the federal election.

Skeena MLA Ellis Ross announced he’ll be running for an MP seat in the next federal election.

“My whole career has been about standing up for the people of Skeena,” said Ross.

“I’ve been fighting for better jobs and safer streets, and I’ve been advocating for B.C.’s resource sector when others only apologized for it. As a Member of Parliament, I’m going to bring that same fight to Ottawa.”

Ross has been an MLA with the BC United party since 2017. He also currently serves as Shadow Minister for Energy and LNG. Previously, he held the position of Chief Councillor of the Haisla Nation, and has recieved the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal and Order of B.C. in the past.

“Ellis Ross has been a tireless, principled advocate for his constituents and for B.C.’s natural resources – and I am grateful for his outstanding service,” said Kevin Falcon, Leader of BC United.

“I know Ellis is committed to our party’s success in the next election, and I look forward to working with him on our shared priorities when he becomes a Member of Parliament.”

Ellis says leader Kevin Falcon has his unwavering support, and adds he will “fight tooth and nail” to ensure BC United wins the next provincial election.

Ross will hold his position as the BC United MLA for Skeena until the next provincial election takes place on Oct. 19.

The next federal election is also predicted to take place within the year.
