A small wildfire has broken out in a forested area near Chetwynd, in B.C.’s Peace River region.

The blaze, which was discovered just before 9 a.m. Friday, is located at Hasler Flats, which is about 25 kilometres east of Chetwynd.

The B.C. Wildfire Service says the blaze is out of control, which means it is “continuing to spread and is not responding to suppression efforts.”

As of Saturday afternoon, the B.C. Wildfire Service said it’s about eight hectares in size.

The service says the fire was likely caused by “humans or human activity.”

Crews are monitoring the fire. The service said it was not posing any threat to communities or infrastructure, and no evacuation orders or alerts had been issued.
