South Okanagan farmers urged to protect equipment from theft

Among the stolen equipment was a blue New Holland tractor - older style.

The South Okanagan RCMP is asking residents to ensure their farming equipment and any other valuable machinery are properly secured.

Mounties say two tractors, two rugged terrain vehicles, and one all-terrain vehicle have been stolen in the Osoyoos area in the past month alone.

“Not only are these thefts discouraging for the small farming community, they have a large impact on operations and sustainability for the businesses and their families,” said Const. Kelly Brett.

Police say the vehicles are likely being loaded onto trailers or other vehicles and then driven away. Property owners are advised to install security cameras to deter future thefts.

Anyone with infomation on the thefts is asked to call the Osoyoos RCMP at 250-495-7326 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if you wish to remain anonymous.

Anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest could be eligible for a cash reward, police say.
