Stanley Park Train suspends service until further notice

The Stanley Park Train is once again stuck in the station.

Service has been suspended until further notice due to a “worker safety incident,” the Vancouver Park Board says.

“The safety incident involved one of the Park Board’s train operators,” the board said.

“The incident has been reported to the City’s Occupational Health and Safety team, who will be following all required protocols to investigate. While this is underway, train operations need to be suspended to ensure the safety of our staff.”

This is not the first time in recent months that the train has been affected by the weather. Service — when the attraction was operating as the Halloween Ghost Train — was suspended back in October in advance of the atmospheric river weather event.

The attraction has also dealt with other issues recently, including a cut in service due to staff illness earlier this week.

Tickets for the popular Stanley Park Train sold out within 24 hours after tickets went on sale online. Some users said they waited for hours until they were able to buy or got kicked out due to system errors.

The Stanley Park Railway says staff are notifying and refunding all customers with reservations up until Dec. 18, but those with tickets after that date will need to wait until a later update. Ticketholders are also able to contact Showpass to request a refund, it says.

Customers would not have been able to ride the train Saturday anyway; the entire park has been closed due to a severe wind storm. It isn’t clear when the park will reopen, but the wind is expected to lessen later in the day.
