Surrey mayor challenger Linda Annis unveils council candidates
Surrey First councillor — and mayoral hopeful — Linda Annis has announced her first four council candidates that will run alongside her in next year’s municipal election.
Annis’ fellow campaigners include retired journalist Janet Brown, Whalley Little League President Clint Stewart, construction executive Taj Sandhu, and autism advocate Deb Antifaev.
“We’re running a full slate of candidates and building a team that will be ready to hit the ground running,” Annis said in a press release on Monday.
If elected as mayor, Annis is vowing to push for a light rail system, scrap the city’s proposed 10,000-seat arena, and put an end to what she calls the stalling of the police transition.
“We have a lot of catching up to do because [Mayor] Brenda Locke and her four councillors have spent their entire term trying to stop, stall, or derail the police transition.”
“Every other priority was put on the back burner. Surrey voters deserve a mayor and city council that can manage multiple issues and opportunities at the same time, and that’s what we’ll deliver.”
Annis declared her intention to run for the city’s top job in early September.
She says more Surrey First candidates will be revealed in January.
The municipal election is scheduled for Oct. 17, 2026.
