The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says it has arrested a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for extortion and firearms offences.

According to police, officers arrested 26-year-old Gurdeep Shergill on Sept. 7 in Surrey.

He was wanted for his alleged role in an extortion attempt in Brampton, Ontario earlier this year.

The Peel Regional Police Service (PRPS) issued the warrant after its investigation into the alleged incidents.

“Our officers may have had an interaction with him at that point, they became aware that he was in the jurisdiction, and they had to work with people to confirm the warrant and subsequently track him down,” said Sgt. Tige Pollock from the SPS in an interview with 1130 NewsRadio.

He is facing multiple charges in connection with a pair of targeted shootings in Brampton in July.

Pollock says Shergill has since been sent back to Ontario, where he is awaiting a court date.
