Surrey shooting leaves 1 person hurt
A brazen shooting near the Surrey-Delta border left one person seriously hurt Friday.
The Surrey RCMP confirms to The Leader Spirit the shooting happened in the area of Scott Road and 84th Avenue around 1:30 p.m.
The incident forced the closure of Scott Road to northbound traffic between 82nd and 85th avenues for several hours, with 84th Avenue also closed to eastbound traffic between 120 Street to 122 Street.
“It’s always concerning when an incident like this happens in broad daylight,” said Const. Parmbir Kahlon with the Surrey RCMP, noting the area is “high traffic,” especially at this time of day.
He says shortly after 2 p.m., the RCMP received reports of a vehicle fire along 179 Street, south of the Golden Ears Connector. Investigators are now working to determine whether this is related to the shooting.
“We’re still in the evidence-gathering phase,” Kahlon said, adding no motive or suspects have been identified yet.
“At this time, our Surrey RCMP General Investigations Unit has conduct of both the investigations.”
Callers to The Leader Spirit reported seeing a large police presence just around 1:30 p.m. Friday, with suggestions the incident may have been in a business parking lot.
One listener said she heard gunshots while driving in the area, adding, “I had to turn my car around and go the other way.”
Images shared online show vehicles riddled with bullet holes.
The RCMP is now asking anyone with dashcam footage from the area of the shooting or car fire to contact investigators at 604-599-0502 and quote file 23-15800.
