Surrey townhouse complex fire sends thick black smoke into the air

1130 NewsRadio is getting word about a fire in Surrey Monday afternoon.

Callers from across the Lower Mainland, including Richmond, New Westminster, and Surrey, report seeing a huge plume of black smoke rising from the Newton area.

There are delays for drivers in the area, especially near the intersection of 144 Street and 72 Avenue.

1130 Air Patrol anchor Brad Scott says the fire is at a townhouse complex, with firefighters currently on scene.
