Surrey will address traffic concern for proposed Costco

While the Surrey city council has given initial approval to the proposed Costco in South Surrey, the concern of nearby residents is mounting.

Mayor Brenda Locke, however, says that the city is taking residents’ concerns about increased traffic for the proposed Costco seriously.

She says that city staff is working on addressing those concerns.

“It does generate a lot of car activity, and so our engineering department is looking at how they can make those roads more accessible,” she said.

Council passed the first two readings of a rezoning for the wholesale store in a Monday session.

Locke says people will have a chance to speak at a public hearing before any final vote on the proposal.

“We will definitely be looking at our road infrastructure in that area,” she added.

The public hearing is scheduled for Nov. 17.
