The B.C. Prosecution Service has charged a man in connection with a suspected homicide in Chilliwack earlier this year.

The Chilliwack RCMP says officers responded to reports of a “suspicious occurrence” on Vedder Road near Knight Road around 11 a.m. on April 21.

When first responders discovered the body of a dead woman, the area was closed off for several hours, and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) began investigating.

The next day, IHIT said it had determined that the woman was a victim of homicide.

Police have identified and provided a photo of 37-year-old victim Chantelle Ruhl in an effort to advance the investigation.

IHIT says Ruhl, a Chilliwack resident, had no fixed address but was known to frequent the area where her body was found.

In an update Monday, IHIT announced that a 38-year-old-man was charged with manslaughter and indignity to human remains in connection to Ruhl’s death over the weekend.

Court documents show the manslaughter charge is connected to April 19 — two days before Ruhl’s body was discovered.
