Police in Chilliwack are investigating after a morning shooting sent one person to hospital Friday.

In a release, the Chilliwack RCMP says just before 1 a.m. it received reports of shots fired near Princess Avenue and Williams Street.

Mounties say when they arrived, a man suffering from “serious injuries was transported to hospital.”

“The investigation is still in its early stages, but initial indications suggest that this is a targeted incident and there is no further risk to public safety,” the RCMP said.

People in the area will see a continued police presence on Friday, Mounties say.

Anyone with information about the shooting is being urged to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611.
