A Filipino-owned tattoo studio in Vancouver is holding a flash sale, with proceeds going to support people affected by the Lapu-Lapu Day tragedy.

Marian Rahl, the owner of Studio Mina, says she knew right away that she wanted to help.

“When we saw footage of what happened that night, we saw that there were children there, and that deeply affected us,” Rahl said.

“And so we said, you know, we have to do something.”

Several tattoo artists will participate in the studio’s fundraiser, which will see 100 per cent of the proceeds go to the United Way BC’s Kapwa Strong Fund and other verified GoFundMe campaigns that are supporting those affected.

“Choose from special flash designs created by each artist,” the studio posted on social media.

“Not getting tattooed? We’ll have a donation box for contributions of any amount, and a raffle for a facial with @studiomina.skin.”

Tattoo artist Jordan Kidd says she has already been tattooing customers as part of the campaign and has received positive feedback.

“So far, everybody that I tattooed yesterday has just been like, this is really awesome, I’m so glad that you’re doing this,” she said.

Kidd says her Filipino friends helped her with the designs, which include images that are significant to the Filipino community.

Studio Mina is holding the main fundraising flash sale and raffle on May 23 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. at 190 East 48th Avenue in Vancouver.
