Teen assaulted in Abbotsford, found in Surrey died Saturday: IHIT
Homicide police are investigating after a teenager found injured in Surrey died in hospital Saturday. The Integrated Homicide Team (IHIT) believes the victim was first assaulted in Abbotsford.
The Abbotsford Police Department says it was called to reports of a man being assaulted and taken away in a vehicle near Victoria Street on Monday, Jan. 27.
Police say the 19-year-old victim was found three hours later with severe injuries near Crescent Beach in Surrey.
He was reportedly transported to hospital and IHIT began investigating after the man succumbed to his injuries days later.
Police believe it was a targeted incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
“The victim had his whole life ahead of him and sadly, his family is now left in grief with many unanswered questions,” said IHIT Sgt. Freda Fong
“You can expect investigators to be in the area canvassing for video evidence. A number of witness interviews are underway in an effort to determine the motivation behind the attack.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
