Toronto Public Health warns of measles exposure at Pearson airport, flight from Dubai

Toronto Public Health officials are warning the public about a case of measles with a recent history of international travel at Pearson airport.

According to the health agency, the public could have been exposed to measles on Emirates Airlines, Flight EK241, from Dubai to Toronto and at Toronto Pearson Airport in Terminal 1 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., both on Dec. 8.

Anyone who may have been exposed should be checking their vaccination records to ensure they are protected from the measles. If you have not received two doses of the vaccine or have not had measles before, you are at risk of infection.

If you are unsure about your vaccination status, you can received the Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine and a blood test can also be done to determine immunity.

Those at risk should monitor themselves for symptoms until Dec. 29. The symptoms can include fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes, a red rash that begins on the face and spreads down the body and small blue-white spots (Koplik spots) that can appear on the inside of the mouth and throat.

If symptoms develop, contact a health care provider immediately.
