Truck driver allegedly causes rollover collision
A dump truck driver lost his job on the spot when he allegedly rolled a dump truck into a ditch while impaired.
The BC Highway Patrol says witnesses reported a single-vehicle truck collision near Deroche on Thursday after 2:30 p.m.
When officers reported to the scene, they located the driver, who was not injured.
The driver’s breath demand on an Approved Screening Device was “fail”.
According to police, the driver is now facing a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, among other charges.
Additionally, the driver lost his job as the supervisor arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and “terminated the driver’s employment on the spot.”
“The majority of professional truck drivers never deal with BC Highway Patrol. They’re too busy working safely and following the rules,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin of the BC Highway Patrol.
“But with any big rig, the stakes are too high to be unsafe. We have no tolerance for drivers who are impaired.”
