Vancouver Fire says two people were displaced after a house fire Sunday morning.

Crews say they responded to a two-alarm fire near the intersection of East Georgia Street and Vernon Drive around 3 a.m.

Assistant Chief Pierre Morin says the blaze was contained to the home and no injuries were reported. Two cats were also rescued, he adds.

Once the fire was out, Morin says the freezing temperatures led to some challenging conditions.

He says the City of Vancouver’s engineering department was called out to salt the roads, since the water crews used to put the fire out had quickly solidified.

“We got water all over the roads, it’s like an ice rink on Vernon,” he said.
