Two Canadian railway crew members were rushed to hospital after multiple locomotives derailed Friday, and an investigation is underway on another derailment near the Alberta-B.C. border the following day.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) spokesperson Terry Cunha says the Friday incident happened at around 10 p.m. PT roughly 13 kilometres east of Revelstoke.

Four locomotives of a train derailed after they made contact with the back of a stationary train on the tracks, he says. The cause is still under investigation, but officials confirmed there was a fire on one of the locomotives.

Eight cars were knocked off the tracks, with four carrying grain. The others are locomotives.

The two crew members have non-life-threatening injuries, and one person has been released.

Meanwhile, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada is on site of another train derailment near Field, B.C., by the Alberta-B.C. border.

Spokesperson Liam MacDonald says there were no known injuries, fires, or leaks from the two freight trains at Ottertail station.

He explains there are reports that some rail cars were on their sides.

Similar to the first instance, MacDonald says this one happened due to a freight train ramming into a stationary one.

Both incidents involved CPKC trains.
