Vancouver Canucks close the year with a big move
The Vancouver Canucks opened 2025 with a big trade and closed the calendar year with one of the biggest moves in franchise history.
That Quinn Hughes is now a member of the Minnesota Wild caps a wild ride for the franchise that saw plenty of change and frustration.
That transaction wraps up a year that started with the move of J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers in an effort to calm the waters in an increasingly volatile dressing room.
It didn’t work. By the end of the 2024-25 season, Rick Tocchet was gone, too, off to coach the Philadelphia Flyers just one season removed from winning the Jack Adams Award as the NHL’s top bench boss. Tocchet’s lead assistant, Adam Foote, took over, and the results on the ice in 2025 have been underwhelming thus far.
That’s not to say there wasn’t something to cheer about within the organization.
The AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks took fans in the Fraser Valley on a journey through the Calder Cup Playoffs, culminating in a Calder Cup Championship, defeating the Charlotte Checkers in six games.
