Vancouver Canucks team Twitter ‘compromised’

Published

on

Vancouver Canucks officials say the team’s X (formerly Twitter) account was compromised Monday.

A likely fraudulent video posted to the @Canucks official account around 2:20 p.m. shows billionaire Elon Musk promoting an online giveaway.

The account is followed by approximately 1.1 million users.

In an update shortly after, the Canucks’ communications team announced that the team’s account had been compromised.

“Please disregard any recent posts until further notice,” said a spokesperson.

Shortly before purchasing the social media platform in 2022, Musk, the owner and CEO of X and subject of the video, pledged to defeat the scourge of spam bots and accounts with links to scams that are endemic to the site — or “die trying.”

The Canucks communications teams says it is working with the platform and the NHL to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
