Vancouver crews extinguish pizza shop blaze
Vancouver fire crews have contained a fire that broke out at a pizza restaurant on Commercial Drive Thursday morning.
Cpt. Matt Trudeau with Vancouver Fire Rescue Service (VFRS) says fire investigators spotted smoke as they were driving past the Pizza Garden store near Napier Street, while returning from the scene of another fire.
Trudeau says there are residential units above the restaurant, but the building was safely evacuated with no reported injuries.
“Right now, it seems like it’s contained. We’re just making sure there’s no extension inside their properties right now,” Trudeau told 1130 NewsRadio.
Around 10:45 a.m., VFRS declared the fire ‘extinguished’ in a post to social media.
Commercial Drive is closed between Napier and Parker streets while crews work.
