Vancouver crews knock down fire in unoccupied house
A fire broke out at an unoccupied, newly-built house in the Renfrew Heights area of Vancouver Monday afternoon.
Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) Acting Battalion Chief Dave Veuger says crews arrived at the scene on Cassiar Street around 4 p.m.
“There were flames coming from the roof when the first-in crews arrived,” said Veuger.
Veuger describes the house as a “new construction,” and says the five people doing work inside safely evacuated without injury when it caught fire.
“[VFRS crews] met the people outside, confirmed that everyone was out and proceeded upstairs to fire attack.”
He says the roof and attic are badly damaged, while the rest of the building “suffered some smoke and water damage.”
An investigation into the fire’s cause is underway.
