A Vancouver Island RCMP officer has been suspended with pay after he was charged with sexual assault with a weapon.

Court documents show Const. Jason Elias Sammoun is facing two counts of sexual assault with weapon that took place in Nanaimo, and one count of uttering threats in Victoria. All three alleged incidents took place on April 1, last year.

In a statement to 1130 NewsRadio, the RCMP said Sammoun is currently suspended with pay and his duty status is subject to continuous review and assessment.

“Immediately upon learning of the circumstances, a Code of Conduct investigation was initiated and remains ongoing,” said Staff Sgt. Kris Clark.

1130 News Radio has reached out to the B.C Prosecution Service for more details.
