Vancouver Island YouTuber has car impounded after speeding
A social media influencer on Vancouver Island lost his wheels over the weekend.
The RCMP says the driver was caught excessively speeding in a 90-kilometer-an-hour zone just north of Nanaimo on Sunday.
“This very fast modified car was clocked doing 150 kilometers an hour. That was an excessive speeding ticket. Turns out it was a YouTube influencer behind the wheel, and he lost his car for seven days,” BC Highway Patrol Cpl. Michael McLaughlin told 1130 NewsRadio.
The driver was also handed a $368 fine.
“The driver did seem a little bit upset that his radar detector had not detected our laser reader, but as was explained to him by the officer, an experienced officer with a laser reader is going to get you before you even know they’re there,” McLaughlin added.
The driver of the Nissan GT-R was “obviously” not too happy to give up his ride, he says, but at least he had a ride home.
“The driver did ask to be dropped off at Tim Hortons. We were happy to do that for him, where he said his mom was going to pick him up,” McLaughlin added.
