Vancouver Park Board to vote on paid parking at popular beach

Parking at Spanish Banks Beach in Vancouver could get more expensive.

The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation will vote Monday on whether to make paid parking permanent at Spanish Banks.

If approved, the price would go up to $1.50 per hour for one of the more than 744 spots across multiple lots.

The current price tag of $1 per hour started as a pilot project last summer.

The board says that the revenue generated from the paid parking project has led to improved park maintenance and cleaning.

When the Vancouver Park Board implemented the paid parking measure in May 2024, resistance built and a petition gained almost 4,000 signatures.

Many who opposed the measure then argued that the paid parking would limit accessibility for certain people.

The Park Board meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Monday night.
