Vancouver’s Hollywood Theatre hosts live tribute to Ozzy Osbourne
It’s your chance to honour a heavy metal legend.
On Friday night, Vancouver’s Hollywood Theatre is hosting an evening to remember Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away last month at the age of 76.
The concert will feature live performances by two tribute bands, a screening of Ozzy’s “End of the Beginning” farewell concert, an air guitar competition, and a DJ set.
“He’s really touched a lot of people in a lot of ways, and this is a way for us to get together and pay tribute to the massive legacy that he’s left us,” said Denton Booth, lead singer of the Black Sabbath tribute band Sack Blabbath.
He says the event had been in the works for some time.
“We were sort of planning to do a tribute to Black Sabbath show leading up to this, and then when Ozzy passed, that sort of pivoted,” he said.
“The Hollywood Theatre [reached] out to us, saying we really want to do an event to celebrate, and we were happy to oblige that.”
Booth says Osbourne’s appeal spanned generations.
“It’s so multifaceted. I’ve never really watched an entire episode of [The Osbournes] reality show; for me, it was more [about] the music, but when you talk to people, they really got off on that. I think it’s just his longevity,” he said.
