Vancouver’s Hollywood Theatre to host Oscars watch party

The 97th Academy Awards are set for Sunday. But, if you can’t make it down to Hollywood, Calif., Vancouver’s Hollywood Theatre may just be the next best thing.

The venue will host an Oscars 2025 Watch Party on Sunday afternoon.

Hosting the event will be drag performer Alma Be, who says attendees can dress up if they like.

“Wear what you feel comfortable in,” she said.  “If you feel comfortable putting on a gown and some heels and coming out and having a good time with your girls, do that. If you want to put on some fancy suits and tuxes and come with your boys, do that too. But if you just want to come and have a good time, come as you are. That’s the best thing about this event is everybody’s welcome.”

Alma will be joined by Jerrilynn Spears and Xana — contestants from Canada’s Drag Race Season 5.

“We’ll be doing live commentary during the show. There might be some performances before the broadcast, making predictions, make sure everybody’s having a good time. We’ll just be hanging out and watching the Oscars together like a good old-fashioned family outing,” Be explained.

The free event is an all-ages affair, but Be says get there soon because she’s expecting a big turnout.

“We’ve already RSVPed over — last I heard a couple days ago, is over 200 people were already coming. I think we fit about 500 in there. So it’s gonna be a good, good night. We talk about movies, we make fun of celebrities. We just have a good old time.”

The doors open at 3:00 p.m. and the show begins at 4:00.
