Whistler Blackcomb confirms death on mountain

Whistler Blackcomb says a 62-year-old man died on Friday after “a serious incident” on the mountain.

Few details about what exactly happened are available. The resort says ski patrol members “responded to a ski incident in Sapphire Bowl” on Jan. 19.

The area is “expert-designated,” Whistler Blackcomb says, adding it’s located in Blackcomb Glacier Provincial Park.

The company says emergency care and an evaluation were performed by an on-duty physician at the scene. However, the man was pronounced dead and transported off the mountain.

“Whistler Blackcomb, Whistler Blackcomb Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends,” said Belinda Trembath, Whistler Blackcomb COO.
