White Rock Jewellers robbed again

The reported theft at Semiahmoo Mall in Surrey on Thursday turned out to be a robbery at White Rock Jewellers.

The theft happened around 5:30 pm on Wednesday, and according to the owners, this is the 5th time something like this has happened, just days after re-opening following a similar incident in March of 2024.

“I was just shocked and panicking inside,” said Jenny Nyguen, an employee at White Rock Jewellers.

Surveillance footage from the store shows a man in a blue sweatshirt, black shorts, and a black hat, seemingly shopping, browsing at one of the displays before quickly leaving.

Just eight minutes later, the same man came back in through the side entrance and began smashing a display with a tool in his hand – and running away with what the owners say was $100,000 in merchandise.

Members of the family who own the business did not want to appear on camera out of concern for their safety.

“My parents work so hard to afford this renovation, and it hasn’t even been a week, and this has already happened,” said Crystal Nyugen, an employee at White Rock Jewellers.

“It’s just why, why does this have to happen again?”

“It’s very sad, and almost disappointing in a way. I don’t know what I’m disappointed about, it’s just very discouraging, and it’s just sad.”

To make matters worse, insurance for the store is hard to come by due to the high volume of incidents that have occurred. Leaving the family with few options.

“I think all we can really do is move forward and hope we can stay in business and recoup the loss we endured,” said Nyugen.

The owners say community support has been overwhelmingly positive — and the store remains open as police continue their investigation.
