The Port Moody Police Department says a woman was arrested and is facing criminal charges after fleeing a sobriety roadblock Friday.

Shortly before 10 p.m., as officers were conducting a roadblock on Murray Street, they flagged an Audi SUV after becoming concerned the driver may be impaired by alcohol.

“The driver then immediately drove off from the check stop,” said Constable Sam Zacharias, media relations officer.

“The vehicle was quickly located in Suter Brook Village, where officers used their police vehicles to box it in, preventing the driver from continuing to flee.”

The woman was taken to the police cellblock, and police are now recommending criminal charges relating to both fleeing from officers and impaired driving.

“Impaired drivers pose significant risk to all road users, and we urge those who intend on consuming alcohol or other impairing substances to plan a safe ride home,” Zacharias said.

“This driver was one of three impaired motorists removed from Port Moody roads last night, all within the span of about an hour.”
