The Surrey Police Service says it is investigating after a woman was critically injured in a shooting early Sunday.

Police responded to reports of possible shots fired at a home on 103A Avenue near Old Yale Road just after 2:30 a.m.

“Officers arrived and BCEHS paramedics were administering life-saving medical intervention to an adult female who was inside the residence at the time and had suffered a gunshot wound,” Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said.

“She was transported to hospital, where she remains in critical condition.”

SPS’s Major Crime Section is investigating to determine whether this incident is linked to extortion.

“SPS will be working closely with our partner agencies to determine if there is a nexus to other ongoing investigations,” Houghton said.

Witnesses or anyone with information or CCTV or dashcam footage in the area between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. are asked to call the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and refer to file number 25-89656 (SP). Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
