Woman injured after being struck by police cruiser in Brampton: PRP

A woman is recovering in hospital with life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a police cruiser in Brampton, Peel Regional Police said on Friday.

The collision happened around 6:15 p.m. on Central Park Drive near Hilldale Crescent.

The woman was crossing Central Park Drive when she was struck by the police cruiser and suffered life-threatening injuries.

Const. Tyler Bell said the officer was not responding to a call for service at the time of the collision.

“A 29-year-old female has been transported to a trauma centre in Toronto, and her condition as of now is life-threatening,” Const. Bell said.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in to look into the incident.

The police watchdog is called in to investigate the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
