The Delta Police Department (DPD) says a woman allegedly intentionally drove into the Fraser River with two young children in the car Friday morning.

Police say they were called to the scene just after 9:30 a.m. after a report of the car having been driven intentionally into the river in the area of River Road near Webster.

“The vehicle was off-road, and stuck in the foreshore of the river and not in the water,” Insp. James Sandberg said in a news release.

“Prior to police arrival, Delta Fire Department firefighters and good Samaritans came to the aid of the female driver and two young children.”

The children were taken to hospital as a precaution but appear uninjured. The driver was also taken to hospital and is receiving medical care, the DPD says.

The incident is being investigated as a criminal matter, police say.

River Road was closed in the area for several hours due to the incident but has since reopened.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dash cam, CCTV, or Tesla video is asked to call the Delta Police at 604-946-4411 and quote file number 2024-22512.
