After allegedly cutting off his ankle bracelet and fleeing the country while out on bail in 2022, police say a Vancouver man has been arrested and extradited to Canada after a three-year investigation.

The Vancouver Police Department says Cody Casey was arrested in the Middle Eastern country of Oman in October last year, after investigators searched across 14 countries around the world to find him.

“This was a complex, multi-jurisdictional investigation that required extraordinary collaboration and perseverance,” said Insp. Phil Heard. “We are grateful to our partners across Canada and abroad, including the RCMP, the Bolo Program, and the Royal Oman Police, for their unwavering support in bringing Cody Casey back to face justice.”

The VPD says Casey was originally charged in 2020 with 17 offences, ranging from producing and trafficking fentanyl to firearms charges.

Back in April 2024, Casey was one of two British Columbians featured in Canada’s 25 most wanted people. At the time, police offered a $100,000 reward for anyone who aided in his arrest.

Since October 2024, Canadian officials have been working to have Casey transferred back to Canada from Oman.

“We have a duty to bring fugitives to justice. There can be no safe haven for those trying to evade the law,” said Liam Price, RCMP’s Director General, International Special Services. “RCMP Federal Policing collaborates with police across Canada and around the world to ensure that individuals who commit serious crimes are held accountable.”

Police say Casey remains in custody awaiting his next court appearance.
