Arrest after barricade incident in Downtown Eastside

After a six-hour standoff, Vancouver Police arrested a man who had barricaded himself with a gun inside a Downtown Eastside building on Tuesday, May 27.

Officers responded to the Beacon Hotel just before 11 a.m. after receiving reports of a person waving a gun.

The suspect had locked himself in a fourth-floor room, prompting a response from over 20 officers, including crisis negotiators, to evacuate residents and negotiate a surrender.

Ultimately, police deployed a taser and a bean-bag shotgun to take the man into custody.

He is now in custody as the investigation continues.
