California sweetens tourism deals, urging Canadians to visit

California state tourism marketing is laying on the love as reports mount of Canadians cancelling U.S. travel plans due to the trade war.

“California wouldn’t be California without Canada.”

That’s the crux of a campaign launched this week by Visit California, the state’s tourism agency, in an effort to get Canadians visiting the Golden State once more.

Visit California is offering Canadians a 25 per cent discount to more than a thousand hotels, activities, and attractions.

The offer comes as cross-border travel drops to historic lows, thanks to the trade war.

In recent months, airlines and ferry services have cut back on service to the U.S. due to low demand.

The agency says 1.8 million Canadians visited California last year.

This year, its message to Canadians is simple: “You are missed, you are deeply valued, and you’re always welcome in California.”
